HUTT RIVER BOARD
A special meeting of the Hutt River Board was held last evening to consider the resipnation of the secretary, ' Mr. Ayery. The chairman (Mr. W. T. Strand) said that Mr. Avery had informed him of his desire to bo relieved of his duties at as early a date as possible, as he had taken up land at Otaki, and wished to commence farming. Mr. Strand, moved that the resignation be accepted with regret. Mr. Averyj he said, had taken an .exceptionally keen interest in the work of the board, and he sincerely hoped his future work would be a success, both for himnelf and his family. Air. Clendon expressed his regret at Mr. Avery's departure. Mr. Mitchell Baid Mr. Avery had given the board good service. When he commenced his duties the board was receiving in royalties about £300; it was to-day receiving £3000. Mr. Avery had commenced, his duties at a troublesome time, and had done a lot of work and suffered much annoyance. He sincerely wished Mr. Avery. success in the future! Mr. Avery thanked the members for their remarks, and said that he had been ' very comfortable in his position and his relationship with the members. - The resignation was accepted, and it was decided to advertise for applicants for the position.
