GLASS DISHES
It is .very annoying to pour custard or other, hot liquid into a glass dish and to have the vessel crack in front of your eyes with the contents running all over the place. The displeasure is greatly increased if it was a "cut-glass" dish, which one would expect to be free from this danger, but it may not be altogether the fault of the maker. There is no difficulty in preventing this accident, and the method costg nothing. When I buy any new glass vessel, whether tumblers or dishes, into which hot material will Be eventually placed, I pnt them into a pan containing cold water and bring the water up to the boil. Then the water is allowed to cool again, after which the glass will be perfectly safe. And it-is safer thus, because the maid is always likely to put the glass into boiling water when washing! The Legislative Assembly of India has removed the sex disqualification from Indian women, who are now eligible to enter Parliament. The Government expressed neutrality before the voting, and promised to frame rules to give effect to the motion, if passed, before the November election. There are 144 members of the Legislative Assembly. Forty, including 26 official members, are nominated, and 104 are elected. j
