RIVAL WHALERS

COLLISION BETWEEN LAUNCHES,

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

BLENHEIM, 3rd Nov. A Nautical Board heard evidence at Picton in reference to two collisions between launches owned by rival Pcrano parties. The feud between Tory Channel whalers is now a matter of common knowledge, and a signal that whales are in the offing always leads to a thrilling race to the death between launches. There have been incidents so reckless that the Marine Department has been compelled to take a hand. Two serious collision* between launches while struggling for possession of a harpooned whale wore the subject of the nautical inquiry. Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M. (Wellington) presided, with Captain Barron and Captain Dewhurst as assessors. After hearing the evidence tho Court reserved its decision.
