WHALERS COLLIDE

/ DECISION OF COURT OF INQUIRY.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

BLENHEIM, This Day. "' The judgment of the Nautical Court of Inquiry into the two collisions by the rival whaling launches commanded respectively by E. C: Perano and his brother, J. A. Perano, finds that E. C. Perano was guilty of careless navigation in both cases. The judgment states that the whaling in itself is sufficiently exciting an J* hazardous, with» out the additional risks due to the endeavour of one party to beat the other.. It recommends that the Marine Department should 'amend the rules of navigation' to provide .that where a launch is fast to a whale, the other craft shall not approach within a quarter of a mile until the whale is secured. E. C. Perano was ordered to pay, £25 towards the cost of the inquiry.'
