MISS PETRIE, MIRAMAR CHAMPION

STRONG WIND SPOILS PLAT.

A strong, gusty northerly provided the worst day tof the Miramar Ladies' Open Golf Championship Tournament for the final, and the cards returned were wonderfully good in the conditions. The weather was far worse than any day in the recent men's Dominion Championship. In such circumstances, and as some of the ,tees have been moved back and the course stiffened since 1924, when the last ladies' tournament was held at Miramar (Mrs. Guy Williams winning- with 250 in ideal weather), the scores in to-day's gale are very creditable, and are nearly as good as those of the runners-up thcu, Misses Gambrill and Vigor Brown, who returned 71's. ' Miss Petrie played steadily throughout her, third round, keeping straight, and playing a very reliable mashie, and her card of 92, 47 out and 45 back, gave her the winning aggregate of 273. Her card had 7's at the third and ninth, and a 7 at the tenth. Keen interest was shown in the cards of Miss Brandon and Miss Pctrio, as they were leading yesterday. Miss Brandon missed several putts which she should have holed, or she might easily have won the championship. but she also, narrowly missed sinking some long ones, notably at the fifteenth. It was unfortunate that she got into the bunker at the last hole and failed to get out at the first shot, the hole taking her 7. A wonderful outward trip was made by Mrs. Stout, 640333545, 39. It was a marvellous golfing achievement in the weather,'and interest was intense in her second half, but she finished this with an 8 and a 7, taking 50 to come back. Nevertheless her not card was the best in the senior medal, competition. Miss D. Chrystall (Christchurch) had a very even card, the only 7. being at the last hole. She went out in 44 and back in 45.
