BY WESTERN AUSTRALIA
TWENTY YEARS' DEVELOPMENT.
(United Press Association.*—Copyright.} (Received 3rd November, noon.) PERTH, _his Day. Speaking at the opening of the Muresk Agricultural College, the Premier, Mr. P. Collier, referred to the wonderful progress Western Australia had made in the past twenty years. Gold mining, he said, had increased the State's population by 200,000 in fourteen years, and ' had prepared the way for a great agricultural experiment. Twenty years ago the State's export of wheat and flour was practically nil, but the value of wheat exported last year was £4,186.000, and this year it should exceed £0,000,000. Wool export values had risen from £603,000 in 1906 to over £3,500,000. The area under crop for wheat and" hay was 460,000 acres in 1906, and this year 3,250,000 acres. The estimated revenue for the State for 1926-27 was nearly double that of ten years ago. Railway lines had increased by over 2000 miles since 1908.
