SOCIALISTS IN CONTROL
LQNDON, 2nd November. The municipal elections in three hundred English and Welsh boroughs, omitting London, rcsultbd in large Labour gains. In 703' scats contested, the net Labour and Socialist gain thus far is 139 seats, the Conservatives losing 69, Liberals 49, and Independents ill. The Socialists now control Leeds and Sheffield, and have also made ten gains in Stoke and seven in Manchester.
