MESSRS. TAYLOR AND CO.S GREAT ENTERPRISE.

Furniture and Joinery Manufacturing - On a Large Scale.

The huge factory depicted above has just been erected by Messrs. Taylor and Co., formerly of Wanganui, for the firm's own use, and occupation as a •'Furniture to User" and joinery manufacturing establishment. The site chosen for the factory is opposite the present railway engine sheds on the Foxton line, and is destined to become a great land mark in Palmerston North owing to its immense size and imposing nature. Mr. Taylor's firm, as indicated above, have been in business in Wanganui for some years ;past, and while trade there proved quite satisfactory the location had its serious drawbacks insofar as transport and distribution facilities were concerned. Recognising Palmerston North as a great railway centre, and a progressive district with a great future ahead of it, and an admirable distributing centre, led Mr. Taylor to select Palmerston North for

the site of this big new factory, and it is just now almost completed, and in the course of the present week will be in full swing manufacturing joinery of all kinds for tho trade, and: furniture for the people at first cost. The policy of this enterprise is to completely eliminate the middleman in all departments of tho business. Mr. Taylor's firm recognise the immense possibilities of the furniture trade down on a Dominionwide distributing scale direct from factory to user, and this in a nutshell explains this new firm's intention. Tho plant removed from Wanganui to the new factory is a thoroughly complete one, representing in round figures ten thousand pounds in value. Bandsaw work, re-cutting, moulding, and running of match lining is only a few of the lines that will receive special attention from tho firm. It is'interesting to note that the principal of this firm hails from "Bonnie Scotland," where his forefathers engaged in a similar trade for.generations past, and ho himself has had a lifetime's experience in all branches of

it. The company consists of Mr. Taylor, sen., and four sons, all of whom are energetic workers, and take a keen interest in the business. The firm are also establishing a timber yard in conjunction with the other branches of their trade, and builders, farmers, and others will be able to secure all classes of rough and dressed timber just as required at a saving on present prices to the extent of anywhere from 10 to 25 per cent., a remark whichj will also apply very favourably to the prices of furniture made here. Thero will be nothing of a sfioddy nature turned out from the factory. All furniture will have J io undeniable stamp of superiority, made exclusively- from well-seas-oned timber, and" put together on the "Henry Ford" system uy expert tradesmen. Tho factory and showrooms combined give the firm' 9255 ft of floor space, and it may be.added that Palmerston North welcomes Mr. Taylor's enterprising spirit in thus cstab* lishing the largest and most up-to-date factory in the coming university town of tho Dominion. ■■„....-■
