SEEKING FRESH FIELD

MIGRANTS FOR DOMINION.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

LONDON, 22nd September.

Tired of years of enforced idleness, and seeing little prospect of work in England, seven Bhildon (Sussex) men,.Messrs. Cradon, Hugill, Ellsbury, Kcrminson, 'Dowries, (Jarjing, and Briggs, have left together for New Zealand in search of employment. Their destination is Huntly. They have had to pay their own passages out, as they had no one to nominate them. TJiis has meant a good deal of sacrifice, and the giving up of virtually all the money they, had. Their wives and families will, remain behind until the husbands can find work and nominate them for passage.

A Sliincliffc [Durham) family party numbering twelve persons is on the way to New Zealand. The party consisted of Mr. and Mrs. r>. Alderson, Mr. J. C. Keid (25), Mr. iNimon Alderson (19), and four younger sons, together with Mrs. Hillstead (daughter), her husband, and two children. Mr. Hillstead has been associated with the mounted police at Eedcar. Mr. Alderson farmed East Grange Farm for 41 years, but owing to constantly recurring industrial troubles he found himself employed at Sherburn House Colliery with other sons. The future prospects of the mining industry they regard to be uncertain, and have gone to New Zealand on agricultural work. Those who have been engaged in the mines complained that for the past sixteen months they had not been able to "keep their heads above water." They are going out under the nomination scheme, and intend to take up agricultural work.
