DAMAGES EXCESSIVE

EDEN GEORGE V. "TRUTH

FULL COURT ORDERS RETRIAL OF

LIBEL CASE.

(United Press Association.—Copyright.)

(Received 2nd November, 10 a.m.)

SYDNEY, This Day.

On tho appeal by "Truth" Newspapers against tho award to Eden George, ex-M.P., of £5000 damages for libel, the Full Court ordered the action to bo retried on the issue limited to damages only. The Court held that, taking all circumstances into consideration, they thought the sum awarded so excessive, so out of proportion to tho circumstances of the case, that it must be assumed the jury considered the matter from the wrong point of view or under an improper understanding of their duty.
