BAPTIST UNION SHIELD
At the Island Bay Baptist Church yesterday afternoon the Sunday school was presented with the Baptist Union Shield. At the recent Sunday School Union Scripture examination 29 scholars won prizes and certificates. The percentage of marks gained by the candidates was 81J, the percentage for the school was 42.07, and the number of eligible scholars totalled 56. The pastor of the church, Mr. Alfred Fear, received the shield at Dunedin at tho Baptist Union young people's demonstration, and handed it over to the superintendent of the school (Mr. A. Gibbs). The shield is a handsome piece of work, and has on it several silver plates bearing the names of the previous holders. At the gathering on Sunday afternoon there was a good attendance of parents, and the scholars were warmly congratulated upon their success. The competition is open to tho Baptist schools throughout the Dominion.
