ALLEGED THEFT
ARMY OFFICER ON TRIAL.

' AUCKLAND, This Day. 1 An Indian Army officer, Patrick Shields Hargreaves, is standing hia trial before Mr. Justice Adams for alleged theft of a typewriter valued at £17. ! An hotel porter gave evidence that ' he left the machine with other lug- : gage belonging to a Sydney passenger, who rushed back from the wharf to say the typewriter was not on board the steamer. The accused was staying at the hotel at the time. i
The manager of a typewriter agency identified the machine as having been I sold to the Sydney man. The accused went to him and offered to sell it, stating that he had procured it at Sydney. Witness recognised it by the |" number, and told Hargreaves to call » later. Meantime tie rang-op the police. The case is proceeding.
