CHANCELLOR ON COMMUNISM AND WOMEN GRADUATES.
(United Press Association.—Copyright.) LONDON, 13Jth October. The Vice-Chancellor of Oxford, in a valedictory Latin oration, specially referred to the association of the .Queenslander Stephenson and another student with Communism, declaring that he waa glad that neither of the students, who were associated in an illegal conspiracy, was an Englishman.
The Vice-Chancellor went on to express alarm at the rapid1 increase in women graduates, saying: "I did my utmost to secure the admission of women degrees. I do not regret it, but nobody foresaw that women would, as they at present do, total one-fifth of our students. "Ho pleaded that the number of women must be legally limited.
Stephenson made several public speeches in January and February last in support of Communism, and associated with Indian Communist. students. He was threatened by the authorities with expulsion, and made formal, recantation to save his scholarship and career. The Vie-Chancellor is Mr. J. Wells, M.A., Warden of Wadham.
