CHALIAPIN.

The first of the two concerts of the famous basso Chaliapin, to be given in .the Grand Opera House, the first on Thursday night and the second on Saturday, promise to be the nvusical event of the year in Wellington. Chaliapin will select the most notable items from his repertoire, including "The Two Grenadiers," "The Song of the' Flea," and "Tho Song of the Volga Boatmen," and others, together with excerpts from various operas. The programme will be identical with that given by Chaliapin at his farewell conceit at Covent Garden, London. Chaliapin's singing is said to be sheer joy to all. The beauty of the voice is no more remarkable than the extraordinary command he has over it. It is stated that he can hurl great volumes of tone, and then intensify this to a climax of supreme grandeur. The management announce that as the booking for the dress circle and stalls is very heavy, and indicates that the whole of that portion of the Grand Opera House will be booked out in advance, they have decided to open the upper circle seats for reserving on Wednesday morning at The Bristol. The box plnns for the reserved dress circle and stalls arc now on view at The Bristol.
