BROADCASTING
GHRJSTCHURCH UNDER TEST
LICENSES NOW OVER 5000.
The Christchurch broadcasting station, with the temporary masts used at the Dunedin Exhibition, is undergoing its preliminary tests, which are proving satisfactory, so much so that indications point to tho reception in Wellington of much stronger signals thaii are received from either Auckland or the best of the Australian, stations. This applies to the temporary station, so that it may be anticipated that when the steel-towers are erected and the arrangements are finalised, an improvement will be noted.
The total number of wireless licenses i'ow taken out and current is 5250. A few more may be expected to swell that total, as the applications are still coming-in--fairly fast. ■Au increase when Ciiristc-hurc-h gets into, working order may be expected, as, if it proves as satisfactory as is anticipated, there is almost certain .to be a. request for a "Wellington station, in which case a wider country district will be served than is possible from other centres.
