ERECTION OF HOARDINGS
PBOTEST FROM CHRISTCHUECH.

i • CHRISTCHUBCH, This Day. "In view of tho fact that the Rail,way Advertising Department has erected another hoarding in Colombo street, the committee has forwarded a further protest to the Minister of Railways against his Department continuing to. erect hoardings in tho city in what aro considered by tho council as unsuitable positions. Tho committee has also protested against hoardings being erected .with their backs to dwellings, as has been done at the corner of Colombo and ■Hazeldean road." The above paragraph was contained in a report which tho Bylaws Committee presented at-last night's meeting of the City Council. Councillor Leadley said that he understood that the Railway Department had given an undertaking to consult tho council before erecting more hoardings. Councillor M'Kellar: "They did." Councillor Leadley: "It does not geem to have dano much good." It was decided to ask the local memJbera of Parliament to support the council's protest.
