LADIES' HOCKEY

CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNEY

RUAHINE AND SOUTHLAND UNBEATEN.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

INVERCARGILL, 30th August.

The New Zealand ladies' championship hockey tournament was continued at Queen's Park this afternoon. The weather conditions were excellent and the games were played in glorious sunshine — a great contrast to the conditions ruling on Saturday. There was an attendance of 600. The ground had improved considerably, and although a trifle soft underfoot, did not interfere with the games to any great extent. In No. 1 section Southland B defeated South Canterbury by 6 points to 4, and Ruahine defeated Wellington by 8 points to 0. In No. 2 section Southland defeated Otago by 8 ppints to 0, and Canterbury defeated Eastern Southland Bby 8 points to 1. The championship points, irrespective of sections, on the second day's play now stand: Ruahine 1, Southland 4, Canterbury 3, Southland B 2, Eastern Southland A 2, and Otago 1. The remainder have not yet gained points. NO. 1 SECTION. Southland B (6) v. Soutli Canterbury (4). Goals were scored by the following: Southland, Misses Clark, Bell (3), Geddes (2); South Canterbury, Misses Packman, It.- Blissett, E. Blissett (2). Puahine (8) v. Wellington (0). By their decisive win over Wellington, the Dannevirke team have established themselves as one of the most likely teams to contest the final. Though Wellington defended stubbornly they could not prevent four goals being scored in each spell, the pace and brilliancy of Ruahine proving too much for the girls of the Capital City. Both in the.backs and forwards Ruahine outclassed Wellington, and it was only determination that prevented a much larger score. The scores for the winners were secured by Blisses N. Foreman (3), R. M'Dowell (2), D. Foreman (2), and Mrs. Hoppi (1). NO. 2 SECTION. Southland A (8) v. Otago (0). The result of the match came as a complete surprise. The Southland team had already played a drawn game with the Otago representatives in Dunedin, and it was anticipated that a close go would result at their second meeting of the season. Otago, however, was never in the picture. Goals were scored for Southland by Misses M'lntyre (3), Ashley (2), Melvin, V. Homer (2). Canterbury (8) v. Eastern B (I).—This match resulted in a runaway victory for the northern team, after a rather uninter-

esting and mediocre display. Misses Schulter (6) and Millichamp (2) secured Canterbury's goals, Miss Bond being the only scorer for Eastern.
