MOUNT COOK OLD SCHOLARS

THE- FIRST ANNUAL MEETING.

The first annual meeting of the Mount Cook Old Scholars' Association was held ia the new school, Buckle street, on Thursday evening, about fifty members attending. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet the president (Mr. J. Mofiitt) rema ed on the apathy of members as shown :,• the attendance, and pointed out that committee were simply; the association's representatives, and without support could not be expected to carry on. He emphasised the fact that while the success of the Mount Cook school's jubilee was in some measure dueto the association, there could be no doubt that a certain amount of the association's work wa« neglected while working for the jubilee. He thanked the committee members for their loyal support during the past year. Mr. C. M'lntyre, in seconding the report, also stressed the necessity for greater enthusiasm among members. Prior to the election of officers, Mr. J. Hitchen, on behalf of the outgoing committee, moved that the number o£ mem-bers-comprising the executive be reduced from 15 to 9. This was seconded by Mr. Harris, and after some discussion, was carried. The election of officers resulted M follows:—President, Mr. J. Moffitt; secretary, Miss M. Hardie; treasurer, Mr. Oldham; assistant secretary, Mrs. Lord; auditor, Mr. W. H. Blick; committee, Messrs. Harris, Hitchen, Blatcher, Roberts, and Mrs. Stevenson. Last year's vice-presi-dents were're-elected en : bloc. The president and treasurer were appointed trustees for the association for the ensuing year. Mr. J. R. Burley, of the School Committee, spoke briefly regarding the possibilities of the association in assisting .to provide playing areas and beautifying the new school grounds. .' The financial statement showed a credit balance of £17 12s Id.
