(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, This Day. The public examination of Jesse James Hills, in bankruptcy,.was resumed to-day. Hills was ; adjudicated a bankrupt in October, 1924. The.public examination began on 3rd \ March last, and was adjourned to secure. : further information regarding transactions in the name of his wife..
The bankrupt said that some years ago his wife, .had; a good, deal of property at.Strathmore, Taranaki. The properties were sold and; his wife lent him money.
Questioned about the districts in which he had banking accounts, the bankrupt admitted that -among them were Hawera, Patea, . Palmerston North, Eltham, Stratford, Inglewood, and Christchurch. . " ; .
"I suppose you did not desert Auckland?" (Laughter.) ' -
The bankrupt:"No, I had an 'account here." ■ ' His Honour: " Why ■ did • you have such a plethora of'•. accounts?"—"lt saved exchange," "You seem to have a hold on most parts of New Zealand!"
The bankrupt's reply regarding, a further transaction led his Honour, to remark: "Perhaps it is one of the saies he has forgotten."
The Crown Prosecutor remarked that £4500 was involved. ■','-.
His Honour: "That is a mere trifle." (Laughter.) ' -
Mr. Cooney (for a,Te.Puke creditor) asked the bankrupt what an entry: of £50 in one of the pass books represented.
"Don't be silly," replied the bankrupt.
Mr. Cooney: "I wish I had some of your silliness in financial transactions." The bankrupt.said the amount represented stamps and commission... "What about this entry of £200?" asked Mr. Cooney. "Go on," said the bankrupt, "get it off your chest. You have been singing this everlasting hymn of hate for years. Make it as dirty as you like." Hills observed that there were two creditors who would not give him a chance. One was Mr. Cooney 'a client.
