POLICE STONED
TROUBLE IN LANCASHIRE
NEWSPAPER MEN ATTACKED.

Further .mining disturbances have occurred at St. Helens, where two thousand who gathered to demonstrate stoned the police, who ignored the first volley.' When it was kept up the police charged with batons and the crowd vu scattered, but the stoning was resumed* The police were reinforced and repeatedly charged, breaking up. the crowd, whom mounted police.chased for miles.
The crowd, incited by women, attacked two newsapaper men, and dangled t' rf -n over a bridge, threatening them With a ducking. They seized a camera and' smashed it. The newspaper mon rushed to a/ motor-cycle and escaped. ' ' , '
