DAVIS CUP MATCHES AT FOREST HILLS
FRENCHMEN BEAT JAPANESE IN
DOUBLES,
(United Press Association.—Copyright.) (Australian-New Zealand Cable Ann.) (Received 28th August, 11.30 a.m.)
NEW YORK, 27th August.
■> At Forest Hills, in the doubles, the Frenchmen beat the Japanese pair, 6-0, 6-0, 6-2.
The singles match on Thursday between Takeichi Harada (Japan) and Reno Lacosto (France), which the Japanese won 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 9-7, was long drawn out and unspectacular. Harada's more vigorous stroking caught the Frenchman unprepared again and again. , Lacoste played listlessly, but J such is the accuracy of his 'forehand and backhand 1 work that he, was able to stave off defeat for a long time. Bothplayed a back-court machiue-like game. The rallies were long sustained, but Harada put more.sting into his drives, and upset Lacosto's defence. The Frenchman's play in the second set was beautiful, but his. shots lacked force, and afterwards he wilted under the hurricane attack of the irresistible Japanese. . ■ .. .
