FIXED CLOSING HOUR.

A petition, signed by E. B. Duncan and 334 others, all of whom are Bmall shopkeepers carrying on business-ill New Zealand, was presented to Parliament yesterday, praying that in their interests the closing hour of all shops should be definitely fixed by Act pf Parliament at 8 p.m. It was stated that the majority of the small shops were situated in tho suburbs, and' a considerable amount of business vu lost to tljem by closing at earlier hours. It was asked that any small shopkeeper prejudicially affected should have power to apply to a Magistrate for exemption. The petition was signed by fourteen Wellington shopkeepers. "'
