ACADEMY OF ARTS
ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
The 3Cth annual meeting of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts was held in the Art Gallery last night, the president (Mr. E. W. Hunt) in the chair, with a fair attendance of members.
The chairman referred to the annual exhibition in September last year as being well up to the standard of recent past exhibitions, and was certainly above that of years ago. The paucity of sales was probably due to the state of things at the time the exhibition was held. The combined Walsh and Hanson exhibition in Aprft had been most instructive, showing the way individual artists treated certain technical points. The Nicoll exhibition was, like the others, of value not only to artists but to all lovers of art, and while the academy might be a slight loser, ho felt sure it was the wish of the academy and of the public that they should be continued.
The balance-sheet wag satisfactory. They had added £263 to the accumulated fund, which now stood at £9844, so that the academy was in a sound financial position. The income was more than enough to account for the year's outgoings. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Patron, His Excellency the Governor-General (Sir Charles Fergusson); president, Mr. E. W. Hunt; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. Ellis and Charles Wilson; council, Messrs. W. Fell, M.D., W. Gray Young, J. A. Heginbotham, W. S. Wauchop, Nugent H. Welch, T. Shailer Weston, M.L.C., and A. D. Carbery, F.E.C.S.; hon. treasurer, Mr. H. E. Anderson; auditor, Mr. C. D. Morpeth.
