SCARLET FEVER GERMS

The conquest o£ scarlet fever is an achievement which adds lustre to the laurels worn by Dr. Gladys Dick, of Chicago, who with her husband, Dr. George Dick, delved deeply in research work to discover the activities of the dread germ. The two worked for years at the M'Cormick Institute for Contagious Diseases, and while Dr. Dick headed a medical unit overseas in wartime, his wife carried on alone. During an illness o£ hers tho culture medium dried up in the laboratory, and her "colonies" of bacteria died; but nothing daunted, she started afresh, and when her co-worker rejoined her, they discovered not only the causative germ, but also a cure for it, when it had already begun its evil career.
