YESTERDAY'S PERFORMANCES
THE JUDGES' AWARDS.
The Competitions again attracted much attention yesterday, the attendance of the public being large. Tha most important item on the programme was the New Zealand test recital for ladies. There were 30 competitors in this class. The "own selection" will be heard later on in the competitions, after which the name of the winner will be announced. To-night in the Town Hall, at 7.45, a fine concert has been arranged, when the best of the week's performers will be appearing. The awards made yesterday were as follows:—
Girls' Song (16 and under 21), own selection.—Recalls: Miss Doris Symes (Wanganui), "Lament of Isis"; Miss Ailsa Nicol (Belmont), "Far Greater in His Lowly State"; Miss Reay Wrightson (Napier), "Sink Red Sun." Highly commended: Miss Molly Madden (Wellington), "The Birthday"; Miss Marie Brown (Berhampore), "Morning"; Miss Eileen Searle (Hataitai), "Bid Me Discourse." Vocal Duet, ladies (own selection), thirteen competitors.—Recalls: Mrs Tarrant (Wanganui) and Misa Marjory Allomes (Wanganui), "Gentle Spring"; Miss Ailsa Nicol (Belmont) and Mis« Joan Lowry (Wellington), "The Day Is Done"; Miss Gladys Dawson (Wellington) and Miss Joy Sutherland (Wellington), "It Was a Lover and Hi* Lass."
