EMPRESS THEATRE.
One o£ the most popular actors on the screen at the present time is Thomas Heir ghan, whose work can always be relied upon to be clean-cut and convincing. In "The New Klondike," a Paramount production, he delighted large audiences at the Empress Theatre yesterday in the role of a crack baseball pitcher, who, oa a trip with Ms team to Florida becomes involved in land deals, and incidentally has something to do with the American land "shark. With a jealous manager, he has by no means an easy time with the team, and finally is sacked, to the despair of his playing colleagues. There is also a girl, daintily played by Miss Lee, and when Tom Kelly wins out against the "sharks," he also wins a charming bride. The methods of the American estate agent are interesting to onlookers, and it is with real enjoyment that one follows the coup that the pitcher brings off against Ills plotters. In the Australian production, "Sunrise," with an Australian cast and an Australian director, a thrilling story of a gold hunt, with romance to leaven the complication of thrilling dangers, is told. Richard Travers and Phyllis dv Barry are the featured players. In addition there is the latest Pathe Gazette, doubly interesting on account of the second cricket Test and the Wimbledon tennis tournament. The incidental music by Mr. M. Dixon, and hia capable orchestra leaves nothing to be desired by patrons.
