SYDNEY'S AQUARIUM
ADJUNCT OF THE ZOO.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
SYDNEY, 10th August.
It is hoped to have ready for the public in a few months time, at the Zoo, at Taroriga Park, an aquarium unrivalled in any other part of the world for its collection and for the beauty of its setting. It will cost about £20,000. The aquarium, it is believed, will house even one or two sharks. It will be Taronga's" wonderland, and is being constructed in the form of a big cave, made by covering a gully with artificial rock formation, from the ceilings of which artificially-formed stalactites will hang. Tho entrance to the aquarium will be through a. profusion of palms and ferns. In the middle of the cave, and extending tho whole distance of it, will be a chain of pounds for tho big fish, while the smaller specimens of the finny tribe will be housed in tanks. Tho view of the tanks and of the big fish disporting themselves in the ponds will be from «levated platforms, which will be an eminently safe place for tho public if one or two sharks are to be included among the monsters of tho deep. It is estimated that tho aquarium will accommodate about 5000 people at the ono time. The fact that the main salt water pool alone measures 80ft by 60ft 'will give some idea of the elaborate linos along which the aquariuVn is to be built.
