This week's "Gazette" cmtoins the railway working account for the period Ist April to 24th July. Following is a suminai-y (the figures for the corresponding period of last year being given in parentheses):— The total revenue for all North Island lines was £1,338,743 15s 6d (£l,----222,883 Is 8d), and the expenditure was £1,065,313 2s 7d (£985,869 19s 6d). In tho North Island the revenue per mile of railway was £3368 4s lid (£3159 10s 8d), the expenditure £2664 16s (£2530 14s 9d). V

On the South Island main lines and branches the revenue was £901,666 10s (£787,160 2s Id), and the expenditure £797,535 3s 6d, (£738,944 4s lid). The average revenue per mile of South Island railway was £1811 2s 9d (£1603 ISs 8d), and the expenditure £1601 19s 6d. (£1505 13s 9d). The grand totals for the two islands were: Bovemie, £2,475,292 4a 5d (£2,204,248 2s 6d); expenditure, £2,014,254 14s 6d (£1,857,187 12s 9d).
