WILL COME AGAIN
ME. SIDEY TO TBY NEXT YEAE;
That it had been a great triumph to secure such a splendid vote in both Houses was the opinion expressed last night by Mr. T. K. Sidey (Dunedin South), who fathered the Summer Time Bill.
Mr. Sidey said that it had to be remembered that of the five members of the Legislative Council whose votes wero not accounted for—one in New Zealand and four at present oversea— at least four were supporters of the proposal; while in the Lower House it was particularly gratifying and encouraging that so many even of thoso representing dairy farming districts, were favourable to a trial of the scheme. There undoubtedly existed a strong body of public opinion in favour of the Bill, and ho was auro that public opinion would not now be content until ;it least a trial of the proposal had been undertaken.
."I am deeply grateful," said the member for Dunedin South, "for, the
support that has been accorded tho Bill without any regard to party considerations, and for the genorous expressions of goodwill that I have received. I desire to acknowledge that tho Speaker of' the Legislative Council acted strictly in accordance with tho recognised constitutional rule in giving his casting vote against the measure." Mr. Sidey said that he had twice succeeded in carrying the Bill to the Upper House, and he intimated Ma intention of reintroducing it into the House of Representatives next session. Ho hoped to livo to take it once again to tho Council, and ho trusted it would meet with complete success.
