LONDON, 24th August.

The race, for the county championship is the keenest for several seasons. Lancashire's victory to-day deposes Yorkshire from the leadership. Tho Yorkshire from the leadership, tho percentages now being Lancashire 73.84, Yorkshire 72.30. Yorkshire's remaining engagements are against Sussex, Glamorgan, and Somerset, whereas Lancashire's are Northants and Notts. Results of the latest series of matches are as follow: —

Yorkshire, in the first innings against Surrey at the Oval, made 274 (Holmes 57, feutcliffe 71, Rhodes ob), and in the second 203 for no wickets (Holmes not out 127, Sutcliffe not out 131). Survey in the first innings clec'ared when niua wickets had fallen for 353 (Hobbs 102, .Fender 72). The match was drawn.

Hampshire, in the first innings against Lancashire at Manchester, made 109, Mac Donald taking four wickets for 30, and E. Tyldesley three for 20, and in the second 313 (Brown 52, Livsey 54, and Mead not out 132). Mac Donald took five wickets for 138, and B. Tyldesley four for 53. Lancashire, in tho first innings, declared' when seven wickets had fallen for 316 (Watson not out 127, B. Tyldesley 55), and in tho second 103 for two wickets (Hallows not out 51). Lancashire Avon by eight wickets.

Notts, in tho first innings against Middlesex at Nottingham, made 387 (Payton 101), Flint 50, A. Staples 82), Allen taking four wickets for BG, and in the second 190 for six wickets, declared (Whysall 106). Middlesex, in tho first innings, made 209 (Mann not out 77), S. Staples taking four wickets

for 46 and Barratt four for 53, ana in the second 354 (Allen 103, Hendren 82, Mann 54), S. Staples getting five wickots for 75. Notts won by 14 runs.

Playing for Gloucestershire against Eases at Leyton, Seabrook made 132. For Essex, Nicholls took soven wickets for 90. The match was drawn.

Playing for Derbyshire against Kent at Derby, Lee made 191. Worthington took five wickets for 74, and Lee five for 87. For Kent, Freeman took six wickets for 120. The match was drawn.

Playing for Glamorgan against Worcestershire at Cardiff, Turnbull made 106 not out. Mercer took six wickets for 33. The match was drawn.

Playing for Sussex against Warwickshire at Coventry, Bowley made 106. A. E. E. Gilligan took five wickets for 32. Tho match was drawn.
