EESULTS OF TO-DAY'S HEAEINGS.
Vocal and instrumental solos and recitations were the order at the Wellington Competition Society's festival at the Town Hall and Concert Chamber to-day. Following are the results of this morning's tests: — Violin solo, under 12, "Tarantella," G. Minor (Cooper): Recalls —Master Leo Lewis (Kilbirnie), Miss Billy Murphy (Wellington), Miss-Veronica Morrison (Petone). Piano solo, open to any amateur over 16, own selection: Becalls —Miss Edna Sneddon (Hataitai), "Rhapsody Hongroise, No. 2" (Lizst), Miss Mavis Tolan (Hataitai), "Aufschwung," Miss Eileen Roache (Wellington), "Bhapsody Hongroise, No. 15" (Lizst); highly commended, Mr. Jack M'Gill (Wellington) and Miss Mavis Muirhead (Palmerston). Sacred solo, soprano, own selection: Recalls —Miss Jeanetto Briggs (Hataitai), "I will Extpll Theo," Miss Amy Eaton (Wanganui), "With Verdue Clad," Mrs. Tarrant (Wanganui), "I Will Extol Thee." Highly commended, Miss Elsie Ives (Christchurch) and Miss Ailsa Nicol (Belmont).
Recitation (girls), 14 and under 16, "Tewkesbury Road" \ (John Masefield), final: Miss Mavis Windsor (Wellington), 81 points, 1; Miss Joan Maunder (Wellington), 79' points, 2; Miss Gracie Kerr (Wellington), 78 points, 3. Highly commended: Miss Lucy Lea (Miramar), Miss Evelyn Wright (Wellington), Miss Kathleen Chappie (Christchurch).
Recitation, boys under 12, "If I Know" (Anon), final: Master Alex Elton (Newtown), 74 points, 1; Master Hugh Janaon (Hataitai), 72 points, 2; Master Malcolm Cheyne (Rona Bay), and Master Larrie Flanagin (Hataitai), 71 points (equal), 3.
Recitation (ladies), "Apple Blossoms" (W. W. Martin): Recalls —Miss Effie Brice (Kilbirnie), Miss May M'Donald (Wellington), Miss Anita Winkel (Dnnedin). Highly commended: Miss Thelma Aitken (Wellington), Mrs. T. L. Sperring (Wanganui), Mrs. Nelson Hill (New Plymouth), Mrs. A. Barton (Brooklyn), Miss Veronica Bagrie (Christchurch), Miss Muriel Aitchison (Kilbirnie).
To-night's programme will include the finals of a number of the trials, notably the operatic dance, recitations in character, combined ballets, sacred solo, operatic or dramatic solo, and piano and violin solos.
