OBSCENE LANGUAGE
CHARGE AGAINST CONSTABLE DISMISSED. . ■ | . ■ ' (By Telejraph.il (Special to "The Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, 13th August. The prosecution brought by the Police Department against Constable Archibald Moore for using obscene language was dismissed this morning by Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M. The charge was laid on tho information of Captain Douglas Arthur Vaughan-Philpott and Alistair Buchanan Stewart, two men of good standing in the community. The defendant and Constable Shields, who was with him at the time, both of high character in the force, both emphatically'denied the language.
Sub-Inspector Lewin said that the Department regarded the complaint as so serious that prosecution was the only course open.
After a protracted hearing the Magistrate: "Sometimes there is a conflict regarding words. I was satisfied the listeners made a mistake. There was no inducement for a man of Moore's reputation and no motive to make the alleged statement."
