TOKIO, 3rd August,

An unusually severe earthquake at 6.30 frightened Tokio, persons running out of buildings everywhere. Reports from various points show that a large area was affected. A railway bridge in the course of construction in a Tokio suburb was damaged. Landslides were reported at Kokosuka. Telephonic communication was upset temporarily.
