WITHDRAWS, BUT STILL SAYS IT.
The Postmaster-General (the Hon. W. Nosworthy) be.camo a little excited in the House of Bepresentativcs yesterday when replying to statements made by Mr. J. M' Combs (Lyttelton) anent State Advances. '.
The .Minister asserted that Mr. M< Combs'had stated that the Beforra Party had received contributions to its fighting fund from finanei..l- institutions who had bonefited through the rate of interest on State Advances having been increased.
Mr. M'Comb3 denied that he hadsaid this yesterday. ■
"Well you said it the other day," roplied Mr. Nosworthy. "It is a backhanded way of fighting. I like straight-: forward methods. It does not reflect any credit on. the honourable member. It is a contemptible method of fighting one's opponents." :
"Order!" called Mr. Speaker, "the honourable Minister must withdraw that remark." .- ;
"I'll withdraw," replied Mr. Nosworthy, "but I'll say that if I did not have to withdraw it I'd still say it.'' (Laughter and Labour prqtests.) '.
Mr. W. G. Parry (Auckland Central): "I think the honourable Minister ought to be made to, apologise."
