PETONE LOSE TO ORIENTAL.

Petone had to admit defeat to Oriental by 17 points to 6 at the Petone Oval. The game provided a big crowd with a hard forward battle and several bright pieces of back play. Oriental were quickly on the attack from the kick-off, and within a few minutes Sly got across for a try, which was not converted. Oriental 3, Petone 0. Corner made a fine effort for Petone, but lost the ball on the line. The Oriental half-back, Chambers,' after a clever piece of play,, sent Evans away for a try. Hepburn was unable to convert. Oriental 6, Petone 0. Oriental continued the pressure, and before half-time M'-Nicol cut 'through brilliantly to score a further try for Oriental. M'Nicol converted his try. Oriental 11, Petone 0. For a time after the interval Petone showed an improvement. Smart work by Corner on the side of the scrum enabled Flowers to score. There was no conversion. Oriental 11, Petone 3. Oriental returned to the attack, however, and kept Petone defending solidly. From a scrum, Chambers set his backs in action, and Cowdell scored under the posts. The easy kick at goal was missed. Oriental 14, Petone 3. A few minutes later, Cowdell was across again, but there was no conversion. Oriental 17, Petone 3. A. Thomas broke away, and after a good forward passing bout, Warden ran; over for a try. The kick at goal failed, and time was called, with the scores reading: Oriental 17,.Petone 6. Mr. E.
