RUGBY
PREPARING FOR THE SHIELD
GAME,
The suggestion is made by a correspondent ("West Coast") that; with" a view to giving the Wellington Rugby representatives some play together before the Ranfurly Shield match with Hawkes Bay, a match with a team composed of West Coasters in Wellington be arranged for Saturday next, in place of the senior championship games. The correspondent contends that such a match would be better than an A and B trial, as apart from its value as a preliminary to the Shield game, it would arouse considerable interest. A fine team of West Coasters could be assembled in Wellington, as quite a large number of seniors and prominent lower-grade players have been connected .with football on the Coast at some time or other. Among those whom the correspondent calls to mind are:— Deere, Hepburn, O'Began, Goodall, L. and B. Brown, Jameson, Burn, Tulloch, Svenson, Scott, Mori, Malfroy, Bedell, Griffen. King.
Players chosen by the local selectors have already commenced a coarse of special training, in view of the match with Hawkes Bay.
