BID FOR SUPPORT OF CARTEL.
PARIS, 20th July. Compared with M. Briand's Cabinet, M. Herriot's list is completely new, and contains several little-known personalities, but betrays the strongest bid for Cartelist support in the persons of M. Chautemps (Minister of the Interior), M. Renoult (Minister of Marine), M. Bonnet (Minister of Pensions), and M. Dariac (Minister of the Colonies). Members are mainly Radical Socialist, and preponderantly Cartelist, though, excluding Socialists who, like M. De Monzie, favour a capital levy, but withhold support, pending development of the Government's policy. On the other hand, a leaning to the Centre is revealed in the choice of M. Painleve and M. Loucheur. The latter is a millionaire, and was largely responsible for the post-war reconstruction of the devastated regions.
