UNEMPLOYED WOMEN
SITUATION IN CHRISTCHURCH.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
CHRISTCHURCH, 20th July. Soon after the new women's section of _ the unemployment bureau opened this morning the need for the sub-de-partment was demonstrated. By midday six unemployed women had called, and such was the initiative of Mrs. E. Denniff (officer in charge), that it is likely that three will have been placed in- suitable positions. All are women workers with experience, whose need for work is great. There are two shop assistants, one machinist, one bookbinding worker, one factory tailoress, and one willing to carry out general work.
The position, generally, is little changed, although the applications made by men to-day for employment aro easier. Up till noon seven new applications were received, and of those-who sought employment three were married men with an aggregate of fourteen dependants. All are labourers.
