BUTTER WITHOUT PRESERVATIVES.
"The Tost's" London correspondent writes concerning the anti-preservative regulations: "The National Pood Council states that nearly all European butter, including the whole of the imports from Denmark, is free from preservatives. Ten per cent, of the New Zealand factories use no preservatives whatever, and a arse portion of New Zealand and Australian butter does not, in fact, contain preservatives. irom these facts, the council states, it would seem reasonable to infer that the use of preservatives in consignments of butter from Australia and New Zealand may without material diminution of supplies be dispensed with, and the position would presumably uot be more difficult in respect of butter from Argentina, Canada, and other exporting countries. It is understood that a large proportion of the butter produced in this country Is free from preservatives. The Departmental Committee found that nearly all the margarine sold In this country contained boric acid preservative, but they considered that margarine could bo kept fully as well as, or even better than,-butter."
