CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.
Tho Canterbury Builders' Association has decided not to approve the suggestion of the Dunedin Association that a joint protest be made against the method of calling tenders for the Hillside and Addington railway workshops. Reporting to the association, Mr. W. H. Winsor said the workshops would be built in sections, and the transfer of men from one workshop to the other would be necessary during the work, as the workshops must be built on the present sites and the usual work must 'be not materially interrupted. The North Island workshops were on new sites, and the ■ work would not be interrupted there.. The actual, work by builders' workmen would bo very small. Mr. Winsor added: "We have very great faith in tho ability and foresight of the Government engineers, and find their plans, specifications, and general supervision most complete and satisfactory to work under. Wo think the Department hus taken its unusual course in the best interests of the public'! Unless stronger reasons .nrc advanced than we have yet hoard we do not think it wise to take action on the lines suggested by the Dunediu Association." ■ The action of Mr. Winaor in writing to Dunediu to this effect was approved.
