INFANT'S DEATH FROM BURNS
An inquest was held yesterday afternoon hefore the Coroner (Mr. E. Page, S.M.) on Thomas William Williamson, an infant, aged seven months, who died in the Wellington Hospital on the evening of 7th June. Medical evidence was given to the effect that the deceased was admitted to the hospital at 5.30 p.m. on 7th June, suffering from extensive burns and shock, from which he subsequently died. The boy's mother said that she left the child sitting on a mat about seven feet from the range while she went on an errand. When she returned a moment later, his clothing was on fire. Witness immediately pulled off the burning garments, applied oil to the burns, and sent for a doctor. There were two other small children 'n the room at the time, but they could not tell her how the accident happened. A verdict was returned that the child died from shock as the result of burns accidentally received.
