DANCING

The Wellington Amateur Photographic Society's plain and fancy dress dance proved a most enjoyable function, the hall being well filled. The first prize for best lady's costume went to Miss Margie M'Cormick, as "Cadbury's Chocolates"; Mr. Piatt, as a "Rooster," gained the men's prize. "Kodak Films," worn by Miss G. Campbell, gained second place. Other prize-winners were: Waltzing competition, Miss Ames and her partner; Monte Carlo fox-trot. Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Mitchell. Misses M'Knight, Bates, and two others Miss Claughton won the lady's prize, and Mr. Johnson the men's at a card tournament. A pleasing incident during the evening was a presentation made by Mr. Malcolm Ross, president, on behalf of the society, of a handsome attache case to Mr. Hector Milne, prior to his departure for Christchurch where he intends to reside. Mr. Ross referred to the many years of hard work and interest Mr. Milne had put iv for the society. Mr. Milne responded. The room was decorated with coloured electric lights in strings across the ceiling and a pretty effect was the rambow waltz, during which coloured rays from a spot light played on the dancers. Mr. S. Cousins, a member of the society, was responsible for the fine orchestra. The Wellington Rowing Club is holding a series of dances in St. Anne's Hall, Green street, Newtown, commencing tomorrow. The floor is in splendid order, and the club has engaged Collins's Orchestra.
