NATIONAL PARK
MEETING OF BOARD,
A meeting of the" Tongariro National Park Board was held in the A.S.R.S. Building, Aitken street, yesterday. There were present: Messrs. J. B. Thompson (Under-Secretary for Lands), in the chair, C. J. B. Norwood (Mayor of Wellington), G. Baildon (Mayor of Auckland),. W. H. Field, M.P., E. Phillips-Turner (Secretary of Forestry), B. M. Wilson (General Manager, Department of Tourist and Health Resorts), B. C. Aston (president," New Zealand Institute), A. G. Simpson, W. Salt, and Hoani te Heuheu. Apologies for non-attendance were received from Sir James.Gunson and Messrs. J. Cullen and T. A. Blyth. Progress was reported in the matter of advertising the hostel franchise for general .amplication. A report was received in regard to the Bruce road that only 74 chains of metalling remained to be done in order to complete access to the Whakapapa Huts. A temporary bridge had been, constructed across the Whakapapanui. The complete cost of the road would work out considerably under the original estimate. General satisfaction was expressed at the practical completion of this great access requirement. A letter was received from the Railway Board advising that the name of the Waimarino Railway Station had been changed to "National Park." Permission was granted for the planting in the park of mountain lilies from Mount Cook. ■'• It was decided to make arrangements for certain expenditure on the Ohakune Track. Accounts amounting to £2020 4s 6d were passed for payment.
