POSITION AT AUCKLAND
NO CHANGE IN THE FARES,
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)'
AUCKLAND, 9th June.
The position regarding the motor-bus regulations which will come into force to-morrow is creating great interest. The bus proprietors, pursuing their determination to defy the regulations, have posted notices on the buses, "All fares as usual." The council announces that it proposes to withdraw all feeder services outside the train area on the ground that this is a legitimate scope for private enterprise, but the council will itself run express bus services at rush hours to Onehunga and other routes where private buses at present run. CHRISTCHURCH, 9th June. The buses controlled by members of the Canterbury' Omnibus Proprietors' Association will be running on all routes to-morrow despite the advent of the new regulations. The proprietors have decided to carry on, and the public, which has given such strong support, will not be deprived of the convenience provided by bus transport. Prices will be as usual until the proprietors hear further from the licensing authority. An owner told a reporter that the City Council had been very fair in its negotiations with the bus men, and sought to got an understanding between the tramways, the buses, and the committee without treating anyone harshly. The buses of the Christchurch Tramway Board will also adhere to the present schedule and routes. Private buses on the Bryndwr-Harewood run will be discontinued because of the regulations. '
