ANNUAL DISTEIBUTION OF PEIZES.

The annual demonstration evening and distribution of prizes, medals, and certificates took place in the Concert Chamber, Town Hall, last night before a packed audience. The programme began -with two piano solos- from the two candidates who gained highest marks'in-the junior division—Miss Jean M'Leod and Miss Dora King. Both candidates played with clear technique. This, was followed by a song, "The Old Bridge at Florence" (Mallinson), sung by Miss M. Pigou, a licentiate candidate. Miss V. Pfobert then played Paradies' Toccata in A Major and an Etude by Grace, with decision, and care. Miss Winifred Chudley recited from Shakespeare's "Hamlet" the scene where Hamlet reproaches, the Queen for her hasty re-' marriage to his uncle, which was followed by Miss Joyce Downing'a playing of Schubert's B flat Impromptu. Miss Hazel Kowe played Beethoven's Sonata Op. 27'Norl (3rd and 4th movements), and the programme was brought to a close by Miss Mary Morpeth, who recited "Tho Farewell of the Prophetess Caasandra to Her Mother," from the Greek play, "Trojan Women." The presentation of prizes, certificates, and medals, etc., occupied tho rest of the evening', which was brought to a conclusion by the singing of the National Anthem.
