AUCKLAND, Bth June,
The "Roadless North" of many past jibes and doleful, complaints in and out of Parliament is coming into its own in more ways than one. The first conversation by direct telephone circuit between Auckland and Kaitaia took place N to-day, marking the completion of a greatly-improved telephone service with North Auckland." Direct circuits are now available between Auckland and Dargavillo, Whangarei, Kaikohc, and Kaitaia, and between ( these' centres. there will also be direct communication, and through them to more remote northern districts. This greatly-improved service has been secured by the construction of a new line through tho centre of the Northern Peninsula, a work that has occupied over twelve months. The whole of the Northern Peninsul is now connected with the rest of the North Island, and when the telephonic cable across Cook Strait is open for Auckland traffic, it will also be possible to talk from Kaitaia to many points in the South Island.
