EAST VOGELTOWN
PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION MEETS.
The monthly general meeting of the East Vogeltown Progressive Association was held last week, Mr. S. B. Watson presiding. It was noted with satisfaction that tho City Council had promised to attend to some of tho most essential requirements of tho. district, notably tho repairing of Hutcheson road and the improving of Moffltt street. The council had not, however, intimated what steps it proposed to take to stop the nuisance caused by the Hutcheson road tip, and the secretary (Mr. Ci Hewitt) advised that, unless the council made some definite move in this direction at an oarly date, the' residents should take concerted action. One of those present at the meeting drew attention to tho fact that Mb wife's dress had been spoilt by burning papers from the tip being blown upon it. Other cases of a similar nature were mentioned.
Councillor E. M'Keen, M.P., addressed the meeting, and assured the association that he would do his best to have the burning nuisauco on the tip removed, and suggested that a deputation should lay the position before the: council. He also expressed, his willingness to assist .the association to obtain a night clearance of the letterbox and the installation of a slot telephone. At the conclusion f his speech he was accorded a vote of thanks and appreciation.
The chairman drew attention to the fact that several ladies had been accosted on Hutcheson road lately, and he stressed tho point that this road should be patrolled at night b/ the police. Suspicious characters, who evidently come along to enjoy the warmth from the fires on the tip, loiter about at night in this vicinity -also. It was decided to co-operate with the Brooklyn Ratepayers' Association in matters affecting the advancement of both districts.
The delegate from the East Vogeltown. Social Club (Mr. P. M'Cornish) explained the reason for the inauguration. _of this club, and assured the meeting that tho club was in no way opposed to tho.association, and stated that-'it would assist the association in matters affecting the welfare of the district.
A vote of thanks was extended to Mr. P. M'Cornish, and after discussion upon various small matters the meeting closed.
