LODGE MEETINGS

The Manchester Unity Order of Oddfellows held its social for June last Wednesday evening, members of the Loyal Antipodean Lodge being responsible for the enjoyment. There was a large attendance, and thanks are due to the Scottish Society for the use of decorations, etc. Music for dancing was provided by.Messrs. H. F. Welbourne (piano), A. Thompson (drums), and S. Harris (violin). During the evening Mrs. A. Wainwright and Miss H. Stevensen sang a duet, for which they had to respond to an encore. Mr. J. M. Duncan and; Miss M. Callaghan were winners of the lucky waltz, Bro. A. C. Blair, 1.P.G.M., making the presentation. Bros. A. Wainwright, Exton, and Wood were M.C.'s, and the refreshments were in the hands of Bros. C. Burnett and E. W. Guise, ably assisted by a committee of members. During an interval Bro. A. C. Blair, 1.P.G.M., extended a welcome to those present. It was intimated that Loyal Newtown Lodge would. hold the social for July. . The Loyal Rose of Sharon Lodge, M IT ■ 1.0.0. F., Upper Hutt, held its fortnightly meeting last Wednesday evening, Bro. Purvis, N.G., in the chair. D.G.M. Bro. A. Eowden visited the lodge, and was accorded lodge honours, to which he duly responded. A resolution was passed that the lodge recommend the district to endeavour to secure a bell in the Memorial Carillon to the value of £100. The following officers for the ensuing term were installed by the District Grandmaster:— I:P.N.G., Bro. Purvis; N.G., Sister Greenwood, P.G.: V.G., held over; E.S., Bro. Leigh ton; Warden, Bro. Boult. Two lady candidates were initiated.. .

On Monday night, at the Loyal-Britan-nia Lodge of Manchester Unity, 1.0.0. F., the newly-elected officers were installed in the various chairs. Bro. Turner, DeputyDistrict Grand Master, acted as installing officer, his supporters being -Bro. Blair, Immediate Past District Grand Master, and Bro. W. I. Clark, District Secretary.' Sister Hargreaves, P.G., of the Loyal Sister Wallis Lodge; and Bro. J. H. Kraft, P.G., Loyal Britannia, ably filled the positions of conducting officers. The candidates were: Immediate Past Noble Grand, Bro. F. \K. S. Martin; Noble Grand. Bro. W. B. Brown; Vice-Grand, Bro. ]5. Jane; Elective' Secretary, Bro. A. B. M'Donagh; Warden, Bro. M'Kenzic; Inside Guardian, Bro. Stuart; Outside Guard, Bro. Johnson. The ceremony was very impressive, and the ritual was conducted by the district officers in a worthy manner. Two candidates were initiated and one was proposed for membership of the Order, which brings the number to over 700.

The fortnightly meeting of Loyal Combination Lodge of Oddfellows, Manchester Unity, was held at Johnsonville last week, Bro. I. G. Richardson, N.G., presiding. One candidate and two honorary members were admitted into the .lodge.' An invitation was accepted to a social evening by the Loyal Newtown Lodge. The action of the District Management Committee in donating a bell to the Carillon was endorsed by. the lodge. A welcome, with lodge honours, was accorded Bro. J. J. Sim, who was one of the very old members of the lodge, and who is now on a visit from Sydney. Bro. Sim expressed his thanks f:>r the flattering reception received. Bro. W. H. Doyle, P.G., and Lecture Master, installed Bro. A. 10. Cook in the office of Y.G., and Bro. P. M. Sebin as Warden.. Bro. E. P. Cook, P.G., as sick visitor, presented a report.
