NELSON, 7th June.

The fortnightly mooting of the Nelson City Council was held on Friday evening. Accounts amounting to £1523 12s lOd were passed for payment. The Nelson Horticultural Society wrote announcing its donation of £8 for replacing trees in the Queen's Gardens. In response to a letter applying for permits to trap opossums on the council reserves it was decided that no permits be. granted, and that anyone found trapping opossums or other animals or birds on any of the council's reserves be prosecuted, the rangers of the State Forest Department to be asked to assist. The City Engineer's report stated, inter alia, that building permits had been issued during the fortnight as follow: —New dwellings, £3087; other buildings and repairs, £1589. . A comprehensive joint report on the proposal to convert the present drainage steam pumping plant to an electricallydriven plant was submitted by the City Engineer. and City Electrical Engineer, and was referred to a committee. Councillor Moifatt and the City Engineer were appointed the council's representatives on the Tahunanui Lands Association The following resolutions moved by the Mayor were carried:—(l) That 500 gallons o£ tar per month be made available tor sale to householders at Is 3d per gallon, and that within the limit of this quantity householders on personal application be allowed any quantity not. exceeding the aggregate 20 gallons during a period of any six months, payment to be made with the order. (2) That the engineer furnish a report and sketch plans and estimates for erecting suitable buildings on' the vacant portions of the present site of the Municipal Buildings, and the practicability of providing a Town Hall and Municipal Theatre to accommodate 1000 people or more, by additions and alterations to the existing buildings or otherwise, as mny be found expedient.
