The balance-sheot of the Scoullnr Company, Ltd., for the year ended 30th April last discloses a substantial Increase In business an compared with the previous yonr. The gross profit totalled £22,001, as against £19,430. The oxpenses, Including £552 written off for depreciation and bad debts and £302 for flro and accident insurance, totalled £16,404, against £15,733, leaving a net profit of £5687, against ,£3696. Xher.4 wa» brought forward
from tho previous year £517, making available for distribution £6204, against £4160, an increase of £2014. The dividend for the year at tho rate of 8 per cent, absorbs £3051, the same as last year, and out of the balance directors' fees, bonus to staff, and Income tax are payable. The Items of tho balance-sheet, with those for last year in parentheses, are as follow: —Liabilities: Capital "paid up, £38,140 (£38,140), share premium reserve, £860 (£860); bills payable, £5232 (£3953); sundry creditors, £7831 (£8361); mortgages, £22,000 (£22,000) ; due to bank, £15,556 (£13,557); dividend equalisation account, £4000 (£4000); profit and loss, £6201 (£4160). Assets: Stock, £46,320 (£44,932); freehold properties, £34,520 (£34,520); plant and fixtures, £679 (£981); motor account, £650 (nil); machinery and plant, factory, £2162 (£2292); bills receivable, £1868 (£1003); sundry debtors, £13,188 (£10,295); goods In transit, nil (£139); shares, nil (£200); suspense account, £44 (nil); cash, £392 (£669). Total, £99,823 (£95,031).
